Invisalign is a set of custom-made clear plastic aligners that move your teeth a fraction of a millimetre at a time, with a new tray swapped in roughly every one to two weeks until your teeth reach their planned position. Your aligners are designed by your orthodontist in planning software, then manufactured as a numbered series of trays that each move your teeth by about 0.25 mm. The software is a drawing tool, not a decision maker. Our orthodontist sets the sequence: which tooth moves first, which teeth are held still to act as anchors, where a tooth needs to rotate rather than tip, and whether a small amount of enamel needs to be polished between contacts to create room.

Attachments and how they change the plan

Most cases need attachments: tiny tooth-coloured bumps of composite bonded to certain teeth. They give the smooth plastic something to grip so it can push, rotate or lift a tooth instead of sliding off it. Canines and premolars usually get them because they are the hardest teeth to rotate. C is for Compliance: The Part That Decides Your Result

Compliance means wearing the aligners 20 to 22 hours a day, and it is the single biggest predictor of whether your treatment finishes on time. Invisalign only works while it is in your mouth. Braces are glued on and work whether you cooperate or not; aligners hand you the responsibility.

In practice that means the trays come out for meals and for drinks other than water, and go straight back in. Two hours of removal per day is your entire budget, and a long lunch plus a coffee break plus dinner eats it fast. Patients who slip to 16 hours a day are not doing 80 percent of the treatment. Change to the next tray on the day your orthodontist tells you, usually every 7 to 14 days.

How Invisalign Actually Moves Teeth

Invisalign moves teeth by applying light, continuous pressure that triggers bone to remodel around the root. Each tray is manufactured slightly out of line with where your teeth currently sit. When you push it on, the plastic flexes and tries to return to its own shape, and that gentle force is transmitted to the tooth.

On the side the tooth is moving towards, cells break bone down. On the side it is leaving, cells lay new bone down. That biological cycle is why teeth cannot be rushed and why heavier force does not equal faster movement. Push too hard and you cut off the blood supply to the ligament, movement stalls, and root damage becomes a real risk.

Only a few teeth are targeted per tray, which is why aligners tend to feel like mild pressure rather than the broad ache people describe with a wire tightening. Most patients report tightness for the first day or two of a new tray, then nothing. If a tray hurts sharply, that is not normal and we want to see you.

What Invisalign Can and Cannot Fix

How Much Does Invisalign Cost in Dubai?

Invisalign in Dubai typically runs from roughly AED 8,000 for a short cosmetic case to around AED 25,000 for full comprehensive treatment, and the number depends on how many trays your case needs rather than on any fixed menu price. These are indicative ranges; your exact fee is confirmed at consultation once we have seen your scan.

Invisalign Express or Lite (about 7 to 14 trays, minor front-tooth correction or relapse): indicative AED 8,000 to AED 14,000.
Invisalign Moderate (about 20 trays, moderate crowding or spacing): indicative AED 14,000 to AED 19,000.

What to Expect in the First Two Weeks

Expect pressure, a slight lisp, and a lot of clock watching in the first fortnight. That is the normal picture, and it settles quickly.

Day one to three: the first tray feels tight and your teeth are tender when you bite. Paracetamol or ibuprofen covers it if you want it. Day two to seven: the lisp on s and sh sounds fades as your tongue adapts. Talk more, not less; silence prolongs it. Day seven onward: the tray feels loose, which is the signal that the teeth have moved and the next tray is coming.

The habit change is what surprises people. You cannot graze all day. Coffee, karak, juice and snacks all mean removing the tray, cleaning your teeth and putting it back. Finishing an Invisalign case almost always involves a refinement stage and always involves retainers. When you reach the last tray, we compare your actual result against the plan. If a tooth has not tracked fully, we rescan and order a short series of refinement trays, usually five to ten. This is routine, not a failure, and it is included in comprehensive plans.

Then attachments come off, we polish the enamel, and you move into retention. Teeth have a memory and will drift back towards their old position if nothing holds them, particularly in the first year. Is Invisalign painful?

Invisalign is uncomfortable rather than painful for most patients. The tightness lasts a day or two after each new tray and fades. It is generally milder than a braces adjustment because fewer teeth are being loaded at once and there are no brackets rubbing your cheeks. Sharp or lasting pain is not expected and should be checked.

Can people tell you are wearing Invisalign?

In normal conversation, rarely. The trays are thin and clear, so from across a table they are close to invisible. Attachments are the more noticeable part up close, since they sit on the front surface of some teeth as small tooth-coloured bumps. What happens if I lose an aligner?

Call us the same day and put your previous tray back in to hold the position. Depending on where you are in the series we will either move you forward to the next tray early, order a replacement of the lost one, or rescan. What you must not do is leave your mouth without a tray for a week, because the teeth start drifting and the following trays will no longer fit.
